by | Jun 8, 2023 | Service Provider Spotlight

Wendy Koll, provides Mindfulness classes for the Breast Cancer Foundation’s Wellness Program. They are held every Thursday, 11am-12 noon, at the Flow Therapeutic Movement studio off Crewe Road in George Town.

When did you get involved with BCF’s Wellness Program?

I have been with BCF for about six (6) years. I started by doing breathwork during their meetings, to hosting one-on-one mindfulness classes.

What service do you provide and why do they help?

Mindfulness classes. I have received positive feedback, that the classes help focus on the present moment rather than getting caught up in what the future holds. The ladies have also said mindfulness helped with their pain.

As a former teacher of young children, I felt that I could help in the area of teaching too and have loved this opportunity. I wish I could do more for the spouses and partners of breast cancer patients, survivors, and thrivers.

Can you tell us about a memorable experience as a BCF Service Provider?

Every experience is memorable for me, as each one is unique. I treasure their ability to help me understand the enormity of their diagnosis and how much resilience and courage is needed to face their journey.

It is not unusual to have coffee and tea after the class to give these lovely ladies an opportunity to share their stories and find comfort in the fact that they are not alone. Many friendships have formed and the support they give each other is very healing.

What are your tips for our breast cancer patients, survivors, and thrivers?

Often being a good listener is better than offering advice.

An interesting fact about you?

At 65 I became the oldest yoga and mindfulness teacher on the island. Just married a year ago (second one) at 70 years old.
