In the last few months, the Breast Cancer Foundation has received tremendous support from students in Grand Cayman. Students from three different schools and of all ages have collected funds for the good cause.

School Donations

The year 3 students at St. Ignatius Catholic School were one of the three schools raising funds. Their teacher Susan Jerrard took them to Camana Bay to see the illustrator and children’s author Loren Long read his new book ‘Otis and the Tornado’. Whilst talking, Loren showed the children how he began thinking of how to make Otis the tractor look ‘human’. He demonstrated by drawing illustrations on large pieces of paper.

After the show, Ms. Jerrard asked Loren if he would care to donate one of the illustrations for charity. He very kindly agreed and signed and dated the illustration. Gordon Hewitt from Island Art and Framing donate the frame and the kids started selling tickets within the school. In total, they raised an incredible CI$ 325 for the artwork.

The Key Club at the Clifton Hunter High School organized several events to raise funds. “My Keyclubbers and I wanted to give back to all women and men who suffer from the tragic disease of breast cancer in Cayman,” explains Sabrina Greene, President of the Clifton Hunter Key Club. “We raised CI$ 200 by hosting a Halloween-themed bake sale and a raffle at our school,” she continues.

The children at the Cayman International School organized a ‘Wear Pink’ fundraiser and collected CI$635.50 for the Breast Cancer Foundation.

“We were surprised by the overwhelming support of the children of Cayman,” says James Bovell, director of the Breast Cancer Foundation. “We are delighted to see that the awareness for Breast Cancer is already a topic in our schools. Awareness and early detection are one of the key players when it comes to fighting Breast Cancer.”
