More than 2,000 participants gathered on Seven Mile Beach on Saturday evening for the Breast Cancer Foundation’s annual Light Up the Night walk, breaking all previous attendance records and creating a breathtaking display of glowing pink along the shoreline.
The walk was led by Her Excellency the Governor, joined by Minister of Health Katherine Ebanks-Wilks and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hilary Wolf, demonstrating strong national support for raising awareness and standing with those affected by breast cancer.
Walkers illuminated the beach with flashing pink bracelets, glowing breast cancer ribbon necklaces and bright batons, transforming the evening into a powerful show of solidarity, remembrance and hope.
The Breast Cancer Foundation expressed sincere gratitude to headline sponsor Island Heritage, whose ongoing commitment to supporting breast cancer initiatives across the Caribbean communities where it operates continues to make a meaningful impact. Appreciation was also extended to Gold Sponsor Dolphin Point, and Pink Ribbon Sponsors the Health Services Authority (HSA) and Doctors Hospital for their generous support.
Participants were kept refreshed thanks to PGL and Coca-Cola, while the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman hosted a glowing pink rest stop at the walk’s turn-around point, offering encouragement and energy to the thousands of participants making their way along the beach.
Corporate support was particularly strong this year, with more than 1,100 corporate walkers taking part. Health City Cayman Islands recorded the largest corporate turnout, registering 160 participants for the event.
Kim Lund of the Breast Cancer Foundation said the record turnout demonstrated the strength and compassion of the Cayman community.
“Seeing more than 2,000 people lighting up Seven Mile Beach in support of those affected by breast cancer was incredibly moving. This event reminds us that no one faces this journey alone – our community truly walks together with strength, hope and compassion.”
Beverly Edgington, Chief Administrator, highlighted the importance of community participation.
“The energy and unity on the beach was truly inspiring. Every glowing bracelet and baton represented someone who cares deeply about raising awareness and supporting those impacted by breast cancer in our community.”
Rebecca Southway of Island Heritage noted the company’s ongoing regional commitment.
“Island Heritage is proud to support breast cancer initiatives across the Caribbean communities where we have a presence. Events like Light Up the Night bring people together in a powerful way, and we are honoured to stand alongside the Breast Cancer Foundation and the Cayman community.”
Organisers described the sight of thousands of glowing pink lights along Seven Mile Beach as simply breathtaking, and extended heartfelt thanks to all participants, sponsors and volunteers who helped make the event the largest and most inspiring Light Up the Night to date.
The Breast Cancer Foundation said it remains forever grateful to everyone who walked alongside them, helping to raise awareness, support those affected by breast cancer, and shine a light of hope for the future.
