Service Provider Spotlight: Lisa Shuangyu Li – Acupuncturist at Cayman Physio

Lisa Shuangyu Li is a highly experienced acupuncturist with 18 years of practice in both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Five Element Acupuncture. These complementary styles provide Lisa with a broad range of tools, which she has found particularly effective in treating cancer patients, alleviating the side effects of chemotherapy, and managing related conditions. She holds the highest qualification for acupuncture in the Cayman Islands and has achieved remarkable success in treating a variety of conditions. Lisa especially enjoys working with patients who feel they have exhausted other options, offering them renewed hope and relief.

Lisa’s training both in China and Canada,  In China Beijing where she studied under two distinguished TCM doctors:

  • Professor Tian, Conghuo: Nationally renowned veteran Chinese medicine practitioner, known for treating internal disorders, clinical moxibustion, research acupuncture treatment of mental illness.
  • Professor Dong, Fuhui: the second-generation inheritor of Chinese orthopedics. specialist in Clinical Spinal Related Diseases.

Both mentors have shaped Lisa’s expertise and approach, equipping her with skills to address a wide array of health challenges. In 2021, Lisa brought her knowledge and practice to Grand Cayman, where she continues to make a meaningful impact.

What service do you provide through our Wellness Program?

Lisa combines acupuncture with nutritional coaching, diet therapy, and exercise to provide holistic care. She has successfully treated conditions such as:

  • Nausea and neuropathy
  • Insomnia and vertigo
  • Headaches and migraine
  • Digestive issues (constipation/diarrhea)
  • Obesity, theroid issue
  • lymphedema and water retention
  • Menopause symptoms
  • Cosmetic concerns (through acupuncture)

How does your acupuncture training help breast cancer patients and their families in Cayman? 

Lisa’s partnership with the Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF) focuses on supporting cancer patients. She addresses symptoms like menopause-related discomfort, muscle pain, headaches, and lymphedema or water retention. Her treatments aim to balance the body, enhance detoxification, and increase energy levels, preparing patients to face chemotherapy or radiation therapy with resilience.

Are there any tips you can share that could help breast cancer patients and survivors during their breast cancer journey using TCM?

Lisa encourages patients to embrace the “Three Fs: Family, Faith, and Friends.” She also emphasizes the importance of rest and movement, nourishing the body, and finding a personal belief system to inspire hope during their journey.

Can you share with us a memorable experience since being part of our Wellness Program?

One of the most rewarding moments for me is when a patient shares that their pain has reduced, or their quality of life has improved because of the program. I’ll never forget when a patient told me her doctor found no cancer cells for a period of time. Seeing the smile on her face in that moment was incredibly moving and reminded me why I’m so passionate about this work.
