Q&A with Kasia Iglinkski, Massage Therapist at Cayman Physiotherapy

What service do you provide?

I provide wellness treatments as part of the Breast Cancer Foundation’s Wellness Program. I am a certified massage therapist at Cayman Physiotherapy.

When did you get involved with the BCF?

For the last 6 years I have worked with BCF patients to help reduce the tension and physical pain caused by breast cancer treatments such as swelling and lymphedema, often caused by the removal of lymph nodes. I also treat women who have had mastectomies to reduce scars and loosen tightness in their surrounding muscles and connective tissues.

What are your massage therapy tips for our breast cancer patients, survivors and thrivers?

A breast cancer diagnosis can be a scary and stressful experience. Practice self-care and be patient with your healing process. Breast cancer treatment and recovery can be a long and difficult journey. It’s important to take care of yourself both physically and emotionally. Regular massage therapy can be a helpful tool to support your overall well-being, but it’s also important to practice other self-care techniques such as exercise, healthy eating, getting enough sleep and seek emotional support when needed.

Remember that healing takes time and that everyone’s journey is unique. Focus on progress, no matter how small, and celebrate your victories along the way.

Interesting fact about you?

I was a journalist and editor for a major newspaper when my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. I saw firsthand the physical pain cancer treatments can cause. Gentle massages were one of the few things that helped manage her discomfort. This inspired me to gain the proper training to become a certified massage therapist to help others in similar situations.
