In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in honor of two of my cousins who are currently battling breast cancer, I decided that this first collaborative event with myself and Cafe del Sol would be a fundraising event. It quickly gained momentum with Office Supply joining in and contributing to the event and to the cause.
While this event was not a huge event I feel that every penny raised and donated would be crucial to someone out there who might desperately need it in their fight against this disease.
100% of the proceeds from the art instruction was donated, Cafe del Sol contributed a cash donation of CI$150 as well as provided the caffeine to get our morning off to a great start and lastly, Office Supply gave every participant a special discount card as well as made a monetary contribution of CI$150 to the cause as well.
The event, which was held on Sunday, October 16th at the Marquee Plaza, in the breezeway between Cafe del Sol and Burger Shack, was sold out. 15 women joined us to recreate an acrylic painting I created especially for the event, called “Morning Coffee”. It featured a cup of coffee with a lipstick stain on the rim, sitting on a table next to a small cluster of pink wildflowers tied with a pink ribbon.
We even had four (4) 9th-grade art students from Grace Christian Academy come out to help set up, distribute paint during the event and break down at the end.
I am so pleased that we could all come together for such a worthy cause; offering healing through creativity: through art.
